Netflix’s drama, Mank, topped the Oscar nominations Monday, March 15, 2021, with ten nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Gary Oldman and Best Supporting Actress for Amanda Seyfried.
It also included nominations for Best Film (The Father), a drama about dementia, (Godas and the Black Messiah), Korean-speaking (Minari), (Nomadland), (Promising Young Woman), and (Sound) Of Metal), as well as (Trail of Chicago 7). These films received six nominations each.
While Netflix led all production companies with thirty-five nominations, after a year that saw companies postponing dozens of films in theaters due to the Corona pandemic or showing them on digital broadcasting platforms.
Two women nominated for the first time
It is noteworthy that two women have been nominated for the first time in the Best Director category.
Chinese-born director Chloe Chow snapped one of the five nominations in the Best Director category for her movie (Nomadland). Director Emerald Fennell has also been nominated for “Promising Young Woman”.
Only one woman, Kathryn Bigelow, won the Best Director award in all of Oscar history.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Monday that the Academy Awards, the most prestigious in the film industry, will be handed out on April 25 at ceremonies at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, and for the first time, at Union Railroad Station in downtown Los Angeles. It has not yet been decided what the ceremony will be like.
A total of 76 women were nominated for awards, the academy said, a record number.

The announcement comes just days after Jonas’ latest solo album, titled Spaceman, was released on Friday March 19. Jonas revealed that he was inspired by his love for Priyanka and the time they were forced to spend apart, due to the Corona pandemic.
The couple is enjoying a strong love story, after their relationship was first noticed in May 2018, prior to their engagement in July. They later married, in a romantic ceremony, in December 2020.
