Seven people from two Muslim families were killed in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Chestermere, Alberta, Canada, Anadolu Agency reported Saturday, July 3, 2021, and while the cause of the fire is still unknown, the investigation continues to find out its causes.
Imam Syed Suhrawardi explained from Supreme Islamic Council of CanadaIn a statement, Friday, the two families were in the house at the time of the fire. He pointed out that the fire killed 7 people, including 4 children. He added that 5 people managed to escape from the building and save their lives.
While Canadian media reported, on Friday night, Saturday, that 5 people miraculously survived the fire. Quoting the authorities, she said, the cause of the fire has not been determined, but the preliminary investigation does not indicate the presence of criminal activity.
For its part, Canadian police stated that the dead in the fire were a 38-year-old man and woman, a 35-year-old woman, and two 12-year-old children (a boy and a girl). The youngest victims were a four-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl.
Canadian police added that two related families were staying in the same house when the fire broke out, Canada’s official broadcaster said.
On the other hand, he mentioned local calgaryherald site In Alberta, the house is owned by a Muslim named Amjad Kamal, who survived the fire.
The site quoted the neighbor Khalil Bhatti, that Amjad was hosting the family of his brother Asad and his three children at a barbecue party, and they stayed with them after that in the house, until the fire broke out.
According to Bhatti, Kamal woke up to the outbreak of fire, and was saving the children inside, as he managed to save four of the children, and while Amjad survived, his brother Asad Kamal and their wife Rafia Kamal and Batoul Rashid died.
