Filipino army’s worst air disaster kills 52, injures 51

Philippine troops found the last five dead from a transport plane crash in the south and two injured survivors died on Monday, bringing the death toll to 52 in the military’s worst air disaster, officials said. The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was carrying 96 people, mostly combat soldiers, when it overshot the runway when it landed at Jolo Airport in Sulu province on Sunday, military officials said. Troops, police and firefighters rescued 49 injured servicemen, including a few who jumped from the plane before it exploded and was destroyed by fire.
