Natalie Portman says she felt like ‘the underdog’ trying to ‘fit in’ on ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ set

Natalie Portman has said she felt like an “outsider” when she first joined the filming of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.

The film, which hits theaters Friday, is Portman’s first full appearance in a Marvel film since 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.” in love with Thor, in “Love and Thunder,” she dresses up to be a heroine.

Portman told Vogue Australia it was “incredible” and “surreal” to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after almost a decade.

However, the actress noted that she felt she had to “figure out how to fit in” because her co-stars, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, and director Taika Waititi had all worked together on the previous film. Thor”, “Ragnarok”.

“It’s so weird when something is very familiar but also, you’re kind of the new kid on the block,” the Marvel star said. “Because Chris and Tessa and Taika had worked on ‘Ragnarok’ together, and so successfully and it was like they all came together and I was this newbie in there trying to figure out how to fit in.”

Portman continued, “But they’re also the nicest people, and I know Chris and Tessa so well from their previous work together, and I’d also done two ‘Thor’ movies before. So there was a lot of familiarity and comfort in this world too, but it was this weird mix of being both a veteran and a newbie. I was there at the beginning. But at the same time, you’re the stranger to this group.

The experience wasn’t entirely new to Portman as she worked with Hemsworth on previous “Thor” movies and Thompson on 2018’s “Annihilation.”

Portman also told Vogue that her “favorite scenes” were when she first started working with Thompson.

“There’s this love and partnership that we have in real life that I think comes into our scenes together,” Portman said. “And seeing that kind of sisterhood reflected on screen, I think, reflected our real experience on set, where it was such a beautiful thing to be able to look at my girlfriend and say, ‘What’s going on? drop by here! I feel that, do you feel that too? Just someone you can laugh and chat with at your workplace.”

“Thor: Love and Thunder” hits theaters Friday.
