Senator Elizabeth Warren tested positive for Covid

WASHINGTON – Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Said on Sunday that she contracted a groundbreaking case of Covid.

“I test for COVID regularly and while I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive with a breakthrough case,” Warren said in a tweet. She added that she was showing only mild symptoms and was “grateful for the protection provided against serious illnesses resulting from the vaccination and the booster”.

The news comes as cities and schools brace for a rapid rise in omicron cases amid the continuing onslaught on the delta. A growing number of school closures come as President Joe Biden’s administration on Friday unveiled a new strategy to use increased Covid testing to keep children in classrooms.

Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned Sunday that the coming weeks will see significant stress on hospital systems as the omicron variant “rages around the world”.

There is no doubt about omicron’s “extraordinary ability” for transmission, Fauci said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. Although the latest coronavirus mutation appears to have less severe symptoms in those vaccinated, Fauci has warned that its transmissibility thwarts the mildness of cases.
