A teenage girl arguing with her mother jumped out of a moving car on a Texas freeway, and another vehicle fatally struck her, officials said.
The young girl was in “disturbance” with her mother on Highway 45 north of Houston when she jumped out of the car Monday night, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. Another vehicle hit her and drove away, the sheriff said.
The girl, aged around 15, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An official at the sheriff’s office said another driver following mother and daughter swerved to avoid hitting her, KTRK reported.
Harris County Deputy Sheriff Thomas Gilliland told the New York Post that the girl’s mother was cooperating with the investigation and the reason for their argument was unclear on Tuesday.
“We have to find this person and find out what happened,” Gilliland told The New York Post. “Maybe they didn’t realize it, but once they hit (the girl) they should have realized it was a body and not debris or something like that. . “
